About Adhitia Sofyan:
Adhitia Sofyan is an advertising man who realized that with a bit of extra effort, his musical career could exceed his modest expectations.
When he was younger, Adhit applied to the prestigious Berklee College of Music in the USA. However, he was turned down, simply because his knowledge of music theory was inadequate. It broke his heart.
But later, he crossed to the other side of the world, Australia, to pursue another of his interests: design. He graduated with a good degree and made a name for himself in the advertising industry.
After several successes in the advertising industry, including winning some awards, he decided it was time to delve once more into his first passion, and he turned back to music.
“Music is almost everything for me,” says Adhit, now 32.
Around a year ago, he finished his debut album, titled Quiet Down, an effort that officially marks the seriousness of his ongoing affair with music. He made Quiet Down available for free download on his website. The response from the number of people who downloaded it was so amazing that Adhit considered releasing it as a CD.
“It was just the next step, I guess. I was too afraid to put in the extra effort,” he admits.
“But then I met this guy, Kikio Nugraha. He told me that I can be anything I want, so long as I don’t get too rigid.”
And so he will be releasing his CD on the Zapato Records label, which he and Kikio Nugraha founded.
If you’re wondering what Adhit’s tunes are like, think of such acoustic acts as Iron and Wine, Fionn Regan, Kings of Convenience or our own Endah N’ Rhesa. While you’re waiting for Quiet Down to become available on CD, you can download the earlier version of the album at www.adhitiasofyan.com. The CD will have different versions of the songs.
And there will be more to come, Adhit promises.
“The second album’s on its way,” he says. “A friend once said to me, *You never know where music will bring you.’ Well, that’s me today.” (Felix Dass)
